aboutPRP
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is concentrated blood plasma which contains approximately three to five times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood. In addition, it contains platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transforming growth factor (TGF).
Platelet Rich Plasma is obtained by drawing a patient’s own blood, removing the red cells using a centrifuge and concentrating the platelets, and re-injecting it back into the patient’s scalp (after numbing of course). Typically, patient's require 3-4 treatments, spaced about 4 weeks apart, to achieve the best results.
Recently, studies have shown that PRP may serve as a safe and effective treatment option for MALE and FEMALE pattern hair loss.It is hypothesised that growth factors released from platelets may act on stem cells in the hair follicles, stimulating the development of new follicles and promoting neovascularisation.
